Why do we read The Bible? Is it so we can tell how many times we have read it? Is it to impress others with our knowledge? Do we read it, so we can check it off of our “to do” list?
One answer is simple. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11) That is a very important reason to read The Bible!
Another answer as to why we read The Bible is that it equips and prepares us for life and all of its’ challenges. Have you ever had a problem, that you had absolutely no idea what to do? Has there ever been a situation in your life, that was so big that you couldn’t even talk about it? Have you had a friend come to you with so much grief and heartache, that you had no words for them?
The Bible is our map. The Bible is our “how to” book. The Bible lights our path and shows us the way, when it seems like there is no way.
So please…read it today…read it every day. Even if you see nothing happening, keep reading! Think of it this way: you are in spiritual training. What a wonderful thought! If you start a new job, you have training. If you play a sport, you have training. Every arena in life requires some sort of training…if you plan to be good at it!
So if you haven’t already, start today. Begin your spiritual training! And is there anyone better to be your “trainer” than GOD Himself?!
Train for GOD, first of all.
Then train for others, to help them stand tall.
Then train for yourself, so that you will not fall.
